Two Easy Ways to Create Team Spirit

Time for a quick, happy jolt for your team.

It doesn’t matter if you’re the boss, or the person who wants to bring people together to shake up the monotony of the office, you have the power to create some fun. Breaking from workplace norms can help people relate better to one another which then leads to stronger teams working well together and solving problems.

There are two, tried-and-true morale/team building strategies I have used countless times in the past that reap positive results and bring teams closer. They deal with two shared human experiences. One takes us back to our childhood, the other takes us straight to lunch.

Option #1: First Day of School Pictures

Ask your team/co-workers to bring in a photo of themselves on their first day of school from way back in kindergarten. Collect the photos, make a display, and put it in a major traffic area at your workplace. Then have people try to guess who is who.

Aside from the laughs and the “awww, you were so cute!” statements, there is a subtle psychology at play with this particular exercise. Seeing each other as innocent kids before…
