Stephen Ross, the President, and the Problem for Universities
The Presidential race is quickly becoming all about race.
With the current occupant of the White House continuing to stir America’s melting pot into a cauldron of poison, those that support the President are being called out for their support of (at the very least) a white supremacist sympathizer.
New York real estate model/billionaire/philanthropist Stephen Ross is facing criticism for his support of the president. It is being widely reported that Ross is throwing a fundraiser for the President at his home in the Hamptons. This event is taking place in the wake of the president’s rhetoric and policies that are supportive of racism, nationalism, white supremacists, and white supremacy.
As some celebrities and common folk rush to cancel their memberships to Ross businesses such as Equinox and Soul Cycle or even their Miami Dolphin season tickets, there is much more to the conundrum presented by all the entities attached to Ross. His reach is widespread, reaching higher education.
Ross is a well-known philanthropist to several organizations, including universities. The University of Michigan is Ross’ alma mater, and he has the distinction of being on their top donors, giving more than $50 million to the instituion. In fact, the UM business school is named after Ross.
