One of my anthropology professors who wrote quite a bit about water rights use to laugh at the notion of people who claimed to “own water.” It is ludicrous to think about those who controls this access. But as we’ve seen with the Flint Water Crisis power structures are very much in control of access and qualilty. And in Michigan, water is already a commodity since there are pipelines such as the Karegnondi pipeline that the Flint community must access in order to get water from Lake Huron.

Thanks for writing about this important topic!
