“I’ve Passed Over 200 Kidney Stones.”
It started at my sister’s wedding.
My dad hadn’t been feeling well for days. We thought it was the stress of the wedding, and my sister’s incessant demands that everything be perfect that day. He kept trying to ignore the pain through the whole event.
At the wedding reception, he was really feeling terrible. My cousin, a practicing evangelical Christian, took my dad out to the parking lot, and did a symbolic prayer ritual, praying to the Dear Lord and Baby Jesus to heal my father and remove the evil from his body.
Later that night, the Good Lord delivered. My dad passed his first kidney stone.
The First Stones
The early days of my dad’s tour with his own rolling stones were tough.
Struggling with the discomfort and pain of the stones, he went to the emergency room many times for relief. All they did was give him prescription strength ibuprofen and send him home.
Knowing he needed to get a specialist on his side, we went to urologist after urologist trying to find a doctor who could help. The various urologists had their own methods for trying to find a way to deal with my dad’s high level of kidney stone production.
